How to Reach Dubai Desert Safari Tours — Directions & Tips

Find the easiest way to your Dubai Desert Safari. Learn about hotel pick-ups, Metro + taxi routes, self-drive meeting points, and quick tips to save time.

Plan Your Desert Safari

Quick Overview

Most tours offer free hotel pick-up and drop-off in Dubai city. If your area is outside the pick-up zone, you can meet at easy Metro + taxi points like Mall of the Emirates or Dubai Internet City. Self-drive guests usually meet near the Lahbab (Red Dunes) area.

Fastest Option

Hotel pick-up (2:30–3:30 pm for evening safaris). Be ready in the lobby with your phone on.

Best DIY Route

Metro Red Line → get off at a convenient station → Taxi/Careem to the meeting point.

Option 1 — Hotel Pick-Up (Most Common)

Simple and stress-free. Included with most tours inside Dubai city limits.

  • Wait in the hotel lobby 10 minutes before your time slot (drivers group nearby hotels).
  • Answer phone/WhatsApp calls; drivers confirm your name and room or landmark.
  • Shared 4×4 or minibus takes you toward Red Dunes / Lahbab for dune bashing and camp activities.
  • Typical travel time: 45–60 min from Downtown; 35–50 min from Dubai Marina.

Tip

If you’re in older Deira/Bur Dubai lanes, wait at the main road for easier pick-up.

Option 2 — Metro + Taxi (Easy & Cheap)

Suggested Metro Stops

Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Internet City, or Business Bay. These have many taxis and clear pick-up points.

How It Works

Ride the Red Line → exit the station → take a taxi/Careem/Uber to the operator’s meeting point or camp gate as shared in your voucher.

Time & Cost

Metro 15–30 min inside the city + taxi 30–45 min toward the desert. Keep a small buffer for traffic.

Wayfinding

Follow the pin sent by your tour team. Ask the driver for “Lahbab Red Dunes area” if unsure.

Tickets

Use a NOL card for Metro/bus. Taxis accept cash and cards; Careem/Uber work well city-wide.

Option 3 — Self-Drive (Meet at Red Dunes)

Driving yourself? Most operators share a Google Maps pin for Lahbab (E44/Hatta Road) or their camp gate. Regular cars are okay on paved roads; avoid sand unless you have a 4×4 and experience.

  • Set navigation to the exact pin from your voucher/WhatsApp.
  • Use the highways: E11 → E311/E611 → E44 (Hatta/Lahbab). Watch for Salik tolls.
  • Park on firm ground; do not drive onto soft sand in a 2WD.
  • Arrive 15 minutes early so your guide can group you for dune bashing.

With Kids or Seniors?

Ask for a gentle dune drive or skip dune bashing and go straight to the camp activities.

Option 4 — Public Bus (Not Ideal)

Buses do not reach the dunes directly. If you must, take a bus within the city to a Metro station, then follow the Metro + taxi route above.

Why Skip It?

Long travel times and limited stops near the desert. You may miss your tour slot.

From the Airports

From DXB (Dubai Intl.)

Metro Red Line from Terminals 1/3 → city station → taxi/Careem to meeting point.

From DWC (Al Maktoum)

Taxi/Careem directly to the meeting point (fastest) or taxi to a Red Line station, then continue.

Luggage

Safaris are quick trips; leave large bags at your hotel if possible. Camps have limited storage space.

Timing

Evening safaris start mid-afternoon. Land early to avoid missing your pick-up window.

New to Dubai?

Share your flight times with the operator. They can suggest the best day and pick-up slot.

Driving & Ride-Share

Highways

Use E44 (Hatta/Lahbab) for Red Dunes. Keep fuel topped-up; stations thin out near the desert.

Parking

Park where staff directs you. Do not block 4×4 convoy paths or soft-sand shoulders.

Taxi / Ride-Share

Set drop to the tour’s exact pin. Keep your phone online for driver coordination.

Dress Code

Light clothes, closed shoes for sand, a cap, and a light jacket in winter evenings.

Practical Tips

Pre-Book

Safaris sell out on weekends and holidays. Reserve your slot in advance.

Health & Safety

Carry water, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Tell your guide if you get motion-sick.

Best Time

October–April is cooler. In summer, choose a late afternoon slot for lower heat.

Accessibility

Ask for soft-drive or camp-only options. Many camps have ramps and accessible seating.
